The Browning Road well has been offline since last October, after samples found higher-than-allowed levels of nitrates.

Federal legislators announced this week they will propose a new grant program that, starting in 2025, would dedicate $15 million each year to the removal of cancer-causing chemicals that plague water systems across the nation.

Titled the Removing Nitrate and Arsenic in Drinking Water Act, the bill seeks to amend the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 through the addition of a Nitrate and Arsenic Reduction Grant.
